Iran’s Foreign Ministry: No Decision Yet on Resuming Talks with US

Iran Undecided on US Talks Amid Rising Tensions

Tehran, Iran – A decision has not yet been finalized regarding the participation of an Iranian delegation in a new round of talks with the United States in Islamabad, according to Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei. Speaking to the BBC, Baghaei highlighted ongoing concerns that are influencing Iran’s stance on negotiations.

Concerns Over US Actions and Ceasefire Violations

Baghaei voiced significant apprehension regarding recent actions by the United States. These include a naval blockade of Iranian ports and the seizure of an Iranian vessel. He also cited President Trump’s threats concerning the destruction of Iran’s infrastructure as a point of serious concern.

“There have been many violations of the ceasefire… during the course of two days they have attacked Iranian vessels,” Baghaei stated, pointing to incidents that further complicate the prospect of immediate talks.

Conditions for Negotiation Still Under Discussion

The spokesman confirmed that internal discussions are continuing within Iran to determine the specific conditions required for the nation to return to the negotiating table. This indicates that while the door to talks may not be entirely closed, significant hurdles remain regarding the terms of engagement.

The BBC understands that efforts are currently underway to establish favorable conditions for the resumption of discussions before the existing ceasefire agreement expires. This suggests a diplomatic push to de-escalate tensions and find a path forward.

Reporting Restrictions in Tehran

BBC’s chief international correspondent, Lyse Doucet, is reporting from Tehran under specific conditions, which include that none of her material can be used on the BBC’s Persian Service. These restrictions are reportedly applied to all international media organizations operating within Iran.
