A poignant display of **20,000 teddy bears** has been set up on the National Mall in Washington D.C., aiming to draw global attention to the estimated thousands of Ukrainian children believed to have been forcibly taken by Russia.
Organized by the U.S.-based **Razom for Ukraine** and the **American Coalition for Ukraine**, this installation symbolizes the approximately 20,000 children that Ukraine asserts have been illegally transferred to Russia and Belarus since the conflict began five years ago. Organizers are urging Congress to intervene and address what the United Nations has condemned as a **crime against humanity**.
Russia has consistently denied these accusations of forcibly deporting children from Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin has, instead, stated that these children were “rescued” from conflict zones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently announced that over **2,100 children** have been successfully reunited with their families through the **Bring Kids Back UA initiative**. This program, active since 2023, focuses on tracing and returning Ukrainian children from Russian-occupied territories and Russia.
