King Charles III and Queen Camilla are scheduled to make their first state visit to the United States as monarchs. This significant trip will mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. A key highlight of the visit is expected to be an address by the King to a joint meeting of Congress.
The visit takes place against a backdrop of strained relations between the United States and the United Kingdom, particularly due to tensions over the Iran war. Adding to the diplomatic complexities, US President Donald Trump has been notably critical of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
BBC’s Sarah Smith offers a preview of what to anticipate during this high-profile state visit.
