Details of Liberation Day Programme Finalized

The full programme for Liberation Day activities in St Peter Port has been confirmed, promising a day of remembrance and celebration on 9 May. This significant event commemorates the 80th anniversary of Guernsey’s liberation from Nazi occupation during World War Two.

Key Highlights and Activities:

One of the day’s centrepieces is the longstanding Liberation 7 Road Race. Marking its 80th anniversary, this historic race, first run in 1946, challenges athletes with a seven-mile (11.2km) course stretching from Rousse to North Beach.

The festivities will extend across St Peter Port, offering diverse entertainment for all ages. A vibrant dance zone will be set up between the Weighbridge and Crown Pier, showcasing performances from local groups. Nearby, an inflatable football pitch will provide fun on the seafront.

Cultural and Family Entertainment:

For those interested in arts and culture, Guernsey Arts will host a special showcase at Castle Cornet, featuring music and extracts from one-act plays. Along the South Esplanade, visitors can explore a variety of local craft, charity, and artisan stalls.

Families with children will find a dedicated children’s zone at Crown Pier, offering engaging activities and a unique opportunity to meet some of the Royal Golden Guernsey Goats.

The day’s events will commence with a traditional parade, set to begin at 09:40 at the White Rock, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display to conclude the celebrations.
