A popular play area in Loughborough has officially reopened following a substantial £500,000 upgrade. The Queen’s Park play area, managed by Charnwood Borough Council, now boasts a wide array of modern and inclusive equipment designed to cater to children of all ages and abilities.
Enhanced Features for All Ages
The comprehensive renovation has seen the installation of state-of-the-art facilities, including a dedicated sensory learning area and new outdoor gym equipment. A new zip line has also been added and is expected to be fully operational in the coming weeks, promising additional excitement for visitors.
Anne Gray, Cabinet Member for Open Spaces and Leisure Facilities at Charnwood Borough Council, expressed her delight at the completion of the project. “I am delighted that we have been able to invest in improving the play area, which looks fantastic, and I am sure it will be enjoyed for years to come,” she stated.
Inclusive and Diverse Play Options
The new equipment selection is notably diverse, featuring a “toddler triple mega deck multi-unit,” a bespoke four-bay swing, a giant sensory dome, and an inclusive wheelchair carousel, ensuring accessibility for children with varying needs. Further additions include a trampoline, a climbing unit, and a sign language play panel, promoting both physical activity and interactive learning.
Gray further emphasized the council’s commitment to inclusivity: “Children will have a wide range of equipment to use within the park, including accessible and sensory equipment to ensure all children can enjoy the play area. I am also pleased to see the other equipment installed which will offer something for all ages. It will be wonderful to see visitors and residents enjoy the award-winning Queen’s Park throughout the summer once again.”
The upgraded Queen’s Park play area is set to become a vibrant hub for families and a cherished community asset, offering a safe, stimulating, and accessible environment for play and recreation.
