China Bans Drone Sales and Imposes New Flight Regulations in Beijing

China is set to implement a comprehensive ban on the sale of drones in Beijing, effective this Friday. Under new regulations, permits will be required to fly drones, and the sale, rental, or import of drones and their key components into the Chinese capital will be prohibited. Additionally, drone owners will be mandated to register their devices with the police.

This regulatory tightening occurs despite drones and flying taxis being a crucial part of China’s ‘low-altitude economy,’ a strategic priority expected to generate more than two trillion yuan ($290 billion; £217 billion) by 2035. Authorities have explicitly cited public safety concerns as the driving force behind these intensified regulations on drones.
