Holidaymakers Face Disruption Amid Potential Strike at Glasgow Airport

Travelers utilizing one of Scotland’s busiest aviation hubs could encounter significant disruptions throughout the summer period, following a ballot for strike action by airport workers.

Approximately 170 employees of the ICTS firm have rejected a recent pay offer. The Unite trade union has deemed the proposed offer unacceptable. These critical staff members are directly involved in passenger security screening and processing for flights, operating within the airport’s security search areas.

Potential Impact and Timing

Unite has indicated that if the strike action proceeds, it could coincide with key travel periods. Specifically, potential disruptions are foreseen during the World Cup, a time when numerous Scottish travelers are anticipated to journey to the USA, and subsequently during the Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place in Glasgow.

The ongoing ballot is set to conclude on May 21st.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport acknowledged awareness of the ongoing discussions between ICTS and the union, expressing a strong desire to ‘ensure that this dialogue results in a positive resolution.’

Sharon Graham, General Secretary of Unite, criticized ICTS, stating that the company has so far demonstrated a ‘cavalier attitude’ towards negotiations. She further emphasized, ‘Unite has unequivocally warned ICTS that our dedicated members at Glasgow Airport merit a significantly improved pay offer compared to what has been presented thus far.’
