Charity Advocates for Enhanced Miscarriage Support and Early Intervention

Charity Calls for Comprehensive Miscarriage Support and Policy Changes

A leading charity is actively advocating for **increased support for individuals experiencing miscarriage**. The Ivy Trust, dedicated to miscarriage awareness and assistance, has put forward several key proposals.

Among their recommendations, The Ivy Trust is calling for **earlier diagnostic testing in Guernsey**. This initiative aims to identify potential issues sooner, offering timely intervention. Furthermore, the charity proposes the establishment of a **national miscarriage register** to better track incidents and inform policy, alongside the implementation of **improved employment leave policies** to support those affected.

This urgent appeal follows significant findings from the UK charity Tommy’s. Their research indicates that offering **testing to women after their first miscarriage, rather than waiting until their third**, could potentially avert up to **10,000 pregnancy losses annually**. This highlights the critical need for a proactive approach to miscarriage care.

Deputy Tina Bury, President of the Employment and Social Security Committee, acknowledged the importance of these discussions. She stated, “We regularly meet with our colleagues in Health and Social Care to discuss these kinds of complex and sensitive matters, which form part of our review of the committee’s wide mandate.” This indicates ongoing governmental consideration of the issue.
