Infantino Pledges ‘Hot Dog & Coke’ for $2M World Cup Ticket Buyer

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has humorously pledged to “personally bring a hot dog and a Coke” to any individual who purchases a World Cup final ticket for an astonishing $2 million. This pledge comes amidst considerable criticism regarding the high ticket prices for the upcoming tournament. Infantino, however, stated that if a ticket were indeed sold at such a price, he would personally ensure the delivery to guarantee the supporter “has a great experience.”

On FIFA’s official resale platform, numerous tickets have been listed for five-figure sums. Notably, last month, four tickets positioned behind the goal for the final in New Jersey were listed for just under $2.3 million (£1.693 million) each.

Infantino clarified, “If some people put on the resale market some tickets for the final at $2 million, number one, it doesn’t mean that the tickets cost $2 million, and number two, it doesn’t mean that somebody will buy these tickets.” He has consistently defended the tournament’s pricing, asserting that they are consistent with those of other major sporting events held in the United States.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, Infantino explained, “In the US, it is permitted to resell tickets as well, so if you were to sell tickets at a price which is too low, these tickets will be resold at a much higher price.” He added, “And as a matter of fact, even though some people are saying that the ticket prices we have are high, they still end up on the resale market at an even higher price, more than double our price.”

Infantino also highlighted that “25% of the group stage tickets can be purchased for less than $300.” He suggested this pricing is comparable to attending a “college game” in the US, emphasizing, “and this is the World Cup.”
