Transport fares for attending World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey have been significantly reduced after widespread criticism from fans. Train ticket prices, initially set at $150 (£111), have been cut to $98 (£73). Similarly, shuttle bus fares have seen a substantial decrease, dropping from $80 (£59) to $20 (£15).
Thomas Concannon, who leads the Football Supporters’ Association England fan group, had previously voiced strong objections to what he termed “astronomical” event pricing, describing it as “completely out of the norm” compared to typical costs.
MetLife Stadium, which will be officially referred to as New York/New Jersey Stadium during the World Cup in line with FIFA’s policy regarding corporate sponsorships, is slated to host eight matches. These include the tournament final and one of England’s Group L fixtures. For context, a standard return rail journey from Manhattan’s Penn Station to the stadium, approximately 18 miles away, typically costs $12.90 (£9.50).
