The BBC has unveiled its roster of expert analysts for the upcoming World Cup, confirming 18 football pundits who will provide coverage for the 2026 tournament. Notably, several high-profile figures from previous broadcasts will not be returning.
Key Pundits Confirmed
Among the prominent names included are former Manchester United favourite Wayne Rooney, alongside fellow ex-England stars such as Alan Shearer, Micah Richards, Joe Hart, Paul Robinson, Steph Houghton, Ellen White, and Danny Murphy.
Representing Scotland, the line-up features Scott Brown, Rachel Corsie, and James McFadden. International football will be covered by stars like Olivier Giroud, Gael Clichy, Cesar Azpilicueta, Benni McCarthy, Ashley Williams, Thomas Frank, and Lucas Leiva, who will offer analysis on various nations.
Notable Absences from Coverage
While many familiar faces are returning, a significant number of pundits who were part of the 2022 World Cup coverage in Qatar have not been invited back. Arguably the biggest names missing are former Match of the Day host Gary Lineker and Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany.
Other notable figures not selected include Didier Drogba, Rio Ferdinand, Danny Gabbidon, Ian Rush, Laura Georges, Jurgen Klinsmann, Mark Schwarzer, Gilberto Silva, and Pablo Zabaleta. The BBC has stated these decisions were made for a variety of reasons.

The World Cup is set to kick off on Thursday, June 11. The BBC will broadcast a total of 54 matches, including England’s group-stage encounter against Ghana. Scottish fans can look forward to games against Haiti and Brazil, while other major fixtures like France vs. Senegal, Brazil vs. Morocco, and the Netherlands vs. Sweden will also be aired.
