Paramedics in Lebanon Describe Impact of Israeli Strikes, Amidst Renewed Conflict

BBC Middle East correspondent Hugo Bachega reported from Nabatieh, Lebanon, a city now largely abandoned, where he accompanied paramedics on duty. The ongoing conflict has displaced one in five people in Lebanon since fighting escalated in March.

During his visit, a paramedic at a damaged ambulance station recounted the death of a colleague, reportedly killed by an Israeli strike while speaking with his wife.

Israeli authorities have stated that some ambulances and health facilities in Lebanon are being utilized by Hezbollah, a claim paramedics deny, asserting a lack of evidence.

Separately, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that their troops eliminated over 20 Hezbollah fighters operating from a hospital compound in Bint Jbeil on Sunday. This location was a significant site of conflict during the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanon’s health ministry, however, refuted the IDF’s claim, accusing Israel of targeting civilians and medical infrastructure.
