Pope Leo Vows to ‘Speak Out’ After Trump Criticism

Former President Donald Trump publicly criticized Pope Leo XIV late on Sunday, April 12, following the pontiff’s earlier criticisms of Trump’s foreign and immigration policies. The Pope had previously expressed concern regarding Trump’s statement about Iran, where he reportedly said ‘a whole civilization will die,’ made last week amidst a tense period in the ongoing conflict.

Pope Leo, who made history last year as the first US-born pontiff, has become a prominent critic of the US-Israeli military actions against Iran, which commenced on February 28. He has also previously challenged the Trump administration’s approach to immigration.

In a post on TruthSocial on Sunday, Trump wrote, ‘Leo should get his act together as Pope.’ He later told reporters that he was ‘not a big fan’ of the pontiff.
