US-Iran Peace Talks Conclude Without Agreement; VP Vance Cites Unmet Terms

US and Iran Conclude Peace Talks Without Resolution

Vice-President JD Vance announced that extensive peace negotiations between the United States and Iran in Pakistan have concluded without a definitive agreement. The high-level delegations convened in Islamabad, Pakistan, amidst a temporary ceasefire, aiming to find common ground on critical issues.

Key Disagreements Emerge

According to Vice-President Vance, a primary obstacle was the inability to reach a consensus on the terms proposed by the U.S. Vance stated that the U.S. “could not get to a situation where the Iranians were willing to accept our terms.” A “core goal” for the United States during these discussions was the cessation of Iran’s nuclear capabilities, a point that ultimately remained unresolved.

Iran’s Perspective on the Negotiations

In response, Iran’s foreign ministry described the talks as “intensive.” The ministry also urged Washington to avoid what it termed “excessive demands and unlawful requests,” indicating a divergence in expectations and approaches during the negotiation process.
