Organisers of Guernsey’s Liberation Day celebrations have announced a series of **key road closures** for the event in St Peter Port. The public is encouraged to use alternative, **’active modes of transport’** to help reduce congestion in the town centre during the festivities.
Event Details and Main Closures
The **Guernsey seafront will be closed all day on 9 May** for the event, which commemorates the end of Guernsey’s Nazi German occupation during World War Two.
Parking Suspensions
**Parking suspensions** will also be implemented on **Crown and Albert Pier from Wednesday, 6 May, until Monday, 11 May**. This measure is to facilitate the build-up of necessary event infrastructure, according to officials.
Specific Road Closures Include:
- The seafront from the **Weighbridge roundabout to the Slaughterhouse roundabout** will be closed.
- The **Weighbridge roundabout** itself will be closed from **10:45 BST** as the parade passes through and briefly before **15:00** for the arrival of the Cavalcade.
- **Fountain Street** will be closed for the entire day.
- **La Vallette** will be closed from **10:00** for the setup of the fireworks display.
**Pedestrian access** will remain available on the raised walkway until **15:00**.
Taxi Service Adjustments
Due to the road closures, taxi services will operate temporarily from **The Albany** and the end of **Castle Emplacement**. The **Town Church Square taxi rank will be closed on 9 May**.
