Police have identified two individuals who died in a house explosion in Bristol. Jo Shaw, 35, and her former partner Ryan Kelly, 41, were killed in the blast that occurred around 06:30 BST on Sunday at an address on Sterncourt Road in Frenchay.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that officers had been called to a domestic-related incident just minutes before the explosion. Investigators are treating the incident as “suspicious,” and Superintendent Matt Ebbs stated that Ms. Shaw’s death has been officially recorded as a homicide, based on current information.

The police force will make a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior police contact with the victim concerning other domestic incidents before Sunday.

Police reported receiving a call at 06:17 BST from a person inside the property, detailing a domestic-related incident where a known man had forced entry. Multiple police units were dispatched. The explosion took place at approximately 06:32, with the first officers arriving on the scene at 06:34, followed shortly by fire and ambulance services.

Superintendent Ebbs conveyed the force’s sympathies to Ms. Shaw’s grieving family, who are receiving support from specially-trained officers. He also appealed for public respect and privacy for those affected, acknowledging significant public interest in the events.
