American Public Media’s Marketplace and the BBC World Service have announced the launch of “Must Be the Money,” a new podcast set to premiere on Monday, May 18. Produced in partnership with For The Culture By The Culture Media and All The Smoke Productions, the series aims to demystify wealth-building for audiences historically excluded from traditional financial media by blending personal financial strategy with cultural storytelling.
An exclusive screening of Episode One, featuring Angie Nwandu, CEO of The Shade Room, is scheduled for May 19 at The Miracle Theater in Inglewood, California. Following the screening, a live Q&A session with host Lee Hawkins and executive producers will address audience questions on topics such as building credit, early investing, funding big ideas, and understanding personal value in business and life.
Hosted by Pulitzer Prize finalist and former Wall Street Journal editor Lee Hawkins, “Must Be the Money” is an on-camera podcast that presents candid conversations with tastemakers, athletes, and entrepreneurs who have navigated the complexities of wealth. The series is tailored for ambitious young adults embarking on careers, building businesses, or seeking to make informed financial decisions.
New episodes will be released weekly on Mondays. The season will feature a diverse array of guests, including Angelica Nwandu discussing monetizing influential platforms, NBA champion Matt Barnes sharing lessons on managing earnings with his twin sons, Jabari Magnus reflecting on financial principles, Angela Yee offering insights on building a personal brand, and experts like Crystal McCrary, Austin Clements, Detavio Samuels, Victor Lugo, and Van Lathan providing guidance on various aspects of finance, entrepreneurship, and career resilience.
