US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that the “clock is ticking” as efforts to finalize a peace deal have encountered significant roadblocks.
Trump’s Direct Message
On his Truth Social platform, President Trump conveyed a strong message: “They better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them,” adding, “TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!” This declaration comes ahead of a scheduled discussion between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.
Stalled Ceasefire and Iranian Demands
Earlier in the week, Trump had described the previously agreed ceasefire with Iran as being on “massive life support” after rejecting Tehran’s counter-proposals. He labeled Iran’s response to US suggestions as “totally unacceptable.”
In contrast, Esmail Baghaei, a spokesperson for the Iranian foreign ministry, asserted that Iran’s proposals were both “responsible” and “generous.”
Key Iranian Proposals
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iran’s counter-proposal includes several key demands:
- An immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, which reportedly refers to ongoing Israeli actions against Iran-supported Hezbollah in Lebanon.
- A halt to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
- Guarantees against any further attacks on Iran.
- A demand for compensation for war damages.
- An emphasis on Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
