However, prices quickly rebounded amidst emerging reports of ships being attacked in the Strait of Hormuz<\/b>, briefly touching $100 a barrel<\/b> before a slight retraction.<\/p>\n
Energy markets have been particularly sensitive since the events of February 28, when the US and Israel engaged Iran, prompting Tehran to issue threats targeting vessels in the crucial Strait of Hormuz waterway<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The initial two-week ceasefire was set to expire on Wednesday evening, Washington time. President Trump did not specify a new deadline for the extended ceasefire.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump claimed the Iranian government was “seriously fractured.” He added that the US would refrain from launching new attacks following a plea from Pakistan for more time for Tehran to reach an agreement.<\/p>\n
