The country’s civil aviation authority confirmed that air operations across UAE airspace have now returned to “normal status.”

In a statement released on Saturday, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) explained that the decision was made “following a comprehensive assessment of operational and security conditions, in coordination with the relevant authorities.” The GCAA also stated it would continue to monitor the situation closely.

This move marks a crucial development for major UAE aviation hubs, including Dubai, home to the world’s busiest airport for international passengers, and Abu Dhabi. Both had been operating under various restrictions since late February.

The conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran had severely disrupted aviation throughout the Middle East. Tehran’s retaliatory actions against Gulf nations led to the closure of significant portions of the region’s airspace. This upheaval not only impacted the region’s efforts to diversify its economy away from fossil fuels but also limited available routes for long-haul flights connecting Europe and Asia.

During the height of the tensions, at least eight states, including the UAE, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, announced full or partial airspace closures. UAE-based carriers such as Emirates and flydubai temporarily halted all operations, while Etihad suspended all departures from Abu Dhabi. Aviation data firm Cirium reported that over 11,000 flights into and out of the region were cancelled in the initial days of the conflict.

The UAE had initially declared a “temporary and partial” closure of its airspace in late February, followed by a gradual reopening in March. Between March 1 and 12, during the partial resumption of air traffic, UAE airports managed 1.4 million passengers and recorded 7,839 air traffic movements. National carriers saw their operations recover to 44.6 percent of normal levels during this period.

The recent de-escalation, facilitated by a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire last month, paved the way for Saturday’s announcement. This development signals a broader recovery trend in regional aviation, with Qatar Airways also confirming on Saturday its plans to resume flights to three Iraqi cities from May 10, in addition to its previously announced expansion to over 150 destinations across six continents by mid-June.

#UAELiftsRestrictions #AirTrafficNormal #MiddleEastAviation #DubaiAirport #AbuDhabiFlights #RegionalRecovery #AviationNews #FlightOperations #GCAA #TravelUpdate

The United Arab Emirates has announced the lifting of all flight restrictions that were implemented following the outbreak of the United States and Israel’s conflict with Iran.
