These services, BBC News Magyarul and BBC News Romania, will deliver news and in-depth analysis via dedicated websites and various social media platforms. The Hungarian service is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, June 16, with the Romanian service following on Tuesday, June 23. Initially, both will be available on Facebook and Instagram, with plans to expand to YouTube and TikTok channels at a later date.<\/p>\n
These pilot services are designed to cater to audiences in Hungary, Romania, Moldova, and surrounding regions. Their coverage will encompass global and regional developments, European current affairs, health, science, technology, climate issues, and the cost of living. Both editorial teams will utilize AI translation tools, with journalists responsible for curating the output and verifying all AI-assisted content. The BBC has stated that such content will be clearly labeled, and the teams will also produce original reports and analysis.<\/p>\n
Fiona Crack, Interim Global Director for BBC News, emphasized the importance of their mission, stating, “Delivering independent and impartial news has never been more important.” Kateryna Khinkulova, Editorial Lead for BBC News Magyarul and BBC News Romania, noted that the content offering is specifically tailored to subjects “of special relevance to the audiences we serve.” With these additions, the BBC World Service’s global content offering now extends to 45 languages, including English. The BBC previously provided services to Hungarian-speaking audiences from 1939 to 2005, and its Romanian service operated from 1939 to 2008.<\/p>\n
