Lebanese Paramedics Speak to BBC Amidst Widespread Israeli Strikes

BBC Middle East correspondent Hugo Bachega reported from Nabatieh, Lebanon, a city described as once vibrant but now abandoned. His report highlighted the severe impact of renewed fighting since March, which has forced one in five Lebanese citizens to leave their homes.

During his visit, a paramedic at a damaged ambulance station recounted the tragic death of a colleague, killed by an Israeli strike while on a phone call with his wife.

Israel has asserted that some ambulances and health facilities in Lebanon are being utilized by Hezbollah. However, paramedics on the ground dispute this claim, stating there is no evidence to support it.

Separately, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that its troops had killed over 20 Hezbollah fighters operating from a hospital compound in Bint Jbeil on Sunday. Bint Jbeil was also a site of intense conflict during the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanon’s health ministry has refuted the IDF’s statement, accusing Israel of targeting civilians and medical infrastructure.
