The record for the world’s longest tiramisu has been officially broken in London. A team of one hundred Italian chefs gathered at Chelsea Town Hall over Saturday and Sunday to create a monumental tiramisu, surpassing the previous record.
A New Culinary Milestone
The new record stands at an impressive 440.6 meters (1,445 feet), significantly exceeding the former record of 273.5 meters (897 feet) set by Milanese Galbani in Milan. Adhering to Guinness World Record regulations, the entire dessert was meticulously made and assembled live on site. Its creation involved a staggering 50,000 ladyfinger biscuits and more than 3,000 eggs.
Mirko Ricci, the visionary behind this London record attempt, had previously held the record in 2017 in Italy before another Italian team broke it in 2019. Ricci described tiramisu as “the most incredible dessert that Italy has exported.” He explained that the chefs chose the UK for this attempt as a gesture of gratitude to the United Kingdom, adding that the giant pudding was also crafted in honour of the King and the Royal Family, complete with a golden crown on top.
Chef Carmelo Carnevale highlighted the strict criteria for the record, stating that the tiramisu needed to be at least 8cm (3.15in) high and 15cm (5.9in) wide. When asked about the secrets to a perfect tiramisu, Carnevale emphasized: “A very good coffee, a nice and firm cream, and also a lot of passion.”
Ricci extended his thanks to all participants in the weekend-long event, proudly declaring, “This is a record for us.”
