No Additional Public Holiday for Guernsey’s Liberation Day 2026 Confirmed
The States of Guernsey has confirmed that there will not be an additional public holiday for the island’s Liberation Day celebrations in 2026. This year, Liberation Day falls on **Saturday, May 9th**.
Questions had arisen regarding whether a bank holiday in lieu would be granted, especially since the official day falls on a weekend. However, the Committee for Economic Development has decided to adhere to the precedent set in previous years, maintaining the public holiday on the Saturday itself.
The States further clarified that the decision to offer staff a day off in lieu remains **at the discretion of individual employers**.
