Opening Date Set for New City Bridge

A new bridge spanning the River Trent in Nottinghamshire is scheduled for its official opening next month. The 87-meter (278-foot) Waterside Bridge, connecting Sneinton and Lady Bay, was constructed in Hucknall and installed in November. Transport Nottingham announced that the crossing will open to pedestrians and cyclists on June 2, followed by a community fun day on June 14. This event will feature free activities, food stalls, and community performances on both sides of the bridge. Additionally, the recently widened and surfaced riverside footpath on the south side of the river will also reopen on June 2. Despite facing delays and increased costs, this government-funded project marks the first new river crossing in the city since the construction of Clifton Bridge in 1958. Linda Woodings, executive member for regional development, growth, and transport at Nottingham City Council, stated, “Schoolchildren from the nearest schools on either side of the river will assist in cutting the ribbon as we celebrate our new Transforming Cities-funded bridge.” #NottinghamBridge #WatersideBridge #RiverTrent #Nottinghamshire #NewInfrastructure #CityDevelopment #PedestrianCycling #CommunityEvent #BridgeOpening #TransformingCities
